Happy "King Kamehameha Day!" Notice the draped leis covering his arms. Only on Kamehameha day will you see the statue this way. Did you know that there are more than one statue? This particular statue is in front of Ali'iolani Hale in Honolulu, Oahu, facing the Iolani Palace.
2) On the "Big Island" of Hawaii in Kapa'au in Kohala which was his birthplace.
3) In Washington D.C., since Obama took office, it stands prominently in the Emancipation Hall at the Capital's New Visitor Center.
4) On the "Big Island" of Hawaii, in downtown Hilo, at the Wailoa River State Recreation Area.
5) On Maui, at the entrance of the "Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa." Made by Herb Kane, it's supposed to be the most lifelike representation of the great warrior king.
6) In Las Vegas, Nevada at the "Hawaiian Marketplace" on the Strip.
You could make it a goal to see each and every one of these statues. I've seen two so far!
Today was definitely not a planned area to walk, but, because of the holiday, I thought I would make the special trip that garnered 3.54 miles for the day.
The majestic, pillared Hawaii State Library in Honolulu, still is awe inspiring even though it was originally built in 1913.
Honolulu Hale, our City Hall completed in 1928, is the place you should go during Christmas. The decorations inside and out affords you many photo opportunities.
Kawaiahao Church, made of coral, was commissioned by Ka'ahumanu and completed in 1842. Meaning the "Water of Hao," as the nearby spring was the bathing place of High Chiefess Hao.
Iolani Palace, where the last reigning Monarch Queen Liliuokalani lived and was imprisoned there after she was overthrown.
Some pretty sites seen around the downtown area. I obviously loved the water fountains. Actually, I wanted to swim in it! HaHa!
The State Capital of Hawaii. Note the pillars, as they are shaped like palm trees and the building is surrounded by water, just like the Hawaiian Islands.
Since my T-shirt is sometimes covered by the umbrella I carry, I thought that the umbrella should also say, "The Walking Hawaiian." What do you think? A Hui Hou!(Until we meet again!)

Thare she blows! Unavoidable and highly visible, this mural done by "Wylan" greets you as you head Ewa(west) on the H-1 near the airport.
And what about the other side? Well, if you drive Diamond Head(east) on the H-1 near the airport, this is the sight that you see. The sky would have blended better if I took this picture when the sun was setting. Actually, you'll see Diamond Head proper if you look in this direction!
Obviously, I am walking through the airport area today and pranced 3.88 miles in and out of various businesses. I had to run in the crosswalks to save denting fenders and myself! Scary! The total for the week is 19.46 miles with the Grand total of 146.24 miles since I started.
.At first, I thought that the icon painted on the Mustang was a graphic tattoo. Upon further inspection, I realized that it was a graphic rendition of a horse and part of it's flank. Even better yet, as its so totally cool! All you horse lovers, do you need a tattoo?
The pretty pink sign of an iced donut caught my attention, so, I mosied in and bought a few donuts. The owner, Helen, so happened to be there and graciously posed behind the display cases. By the way, the donuts were fresh, moist and tasty. The "Regal Bakery" is open till 2:00pm, so, take care of your sweet tooth folks!
About that sweet tooth, here is another favorite of mine; Caramel Popcorn with Macadamia nuts! It'll hook you once you taste it! There is a retail store here which the public can enter and buy all their products. You can save big if you buy in bulk! Think...Christmas gifts!! Or...Gorge myself!!!
In the news, Sopogy, meaning: So-solar, Po-power, Gy-energy as claims of output by NREL and Panos Prevedouros, a Professor of civil engineering at UH are quite different. Prevedouros' research suggest the Big Island plant produces less than 100KW and the NREL says 2MV to 500KW. The project cost the state $20 million with the output of 100KW that is equal to $200/watt. If we use Photovoltaic panels, it would equal to $5/watt. Something's fishy!
I'm still scratching my head about this one! Are they waiting for the cell phone to ring? Be delivered? Or is this a pull-out for people using their cell phone. Well, you know EVERYONE uses the cell phone while they are driving, amongst other things as well. If someone knows what this is, please tell me! Have a great weekend! Aloha!(bye!)

Time to put on some glasses and keep your mouth shut! I noticed something strange about this car as I walked near. NO WINDSHIELD and NO FRAME in the front. Are they trying to get the motorcycle feel with a Jeep? Not cool if there are a lot of bugs in the air!
Walking around the Navy Military housing, I completed 3.68 miles for the day. Cookie-cutter, but lovely homes, I only wish that they decorated their yards a little more.
This tree must be hapa-haole. (half-Caucasian) I checked to make sure that two trees weren't intertwining. I still don't get how this happened!
Where is the elevator? How do you get in and out of this vehicle? Throw me a bone, someone! Well, at least they have great visibility, and the people behind can see from under the car! HaHa!
The stained glass in this church is awe inspiring. Please come and see with your own eyes the artistry and skill that produced a beautiful dedication to God.
To my flower lovers, here you go! Although not a part of my walk today, I did take this picture when I went to "Foster Botanical Garden." This orchid was one of many gorgeous varieties that they have there. Aloha!(Bye!)

Is this somebodies yard? Well, it can be put there! These rock molds can decorate a home or hotel or a business. Located on the Northeast part of Mapunpuna, you've got to see the well thought out displays. If I where rich, I would definitely have at least one of these waterfalls near the entrance of my house or a decoration for my yard.
Called, "Big Rock," you can find beautiful, well made rock ornaments for your yard.
Are you confused? Yeah, me too! I finally had to draw my own map by piecing together these four maps so I wouldn't get lost. Today's marathon consisted of 6.66 miles of ambitious walking. Actually, I didn't know any better! HaHa! Mapunapuna was originally a swamp land, but got filled in and is now a business/industrial area. Flooding still happens in parts of Mapunapuna when we get a lot of rain.
Does this look familiar? If you saw yesterday's blog, I took a picture of graffiti lining the canal and if you looked closely, you would see that this is the same artist. He or she really gets around!
Talking about graffiti, hmmmm..... security cameras watching... do you think they caught the person painting this wall? It doesn't make me feel too secure! HaHa!
What is that? A siren? No, its a new fangled windmill. It turns where ever the wind is, so it's constantly in motion and a good source of alternative energy.
Not the prettiest store in the world, but, they have great "local kine" snacks at reasonable prices and good quality. By the way, they ship to the mainland!!! (For the locals who don't live here, good to know!) I come here at least once a month to get my fill of ono(delicious) snacks.
I know, where are the pretty flower pictures? Sorry, none for today either. Let's cross our fingers for tomorrow! Aloha ahiahi!(Good evening!)

Well hidden sitting low in the valley, Moanalua Golf Course was the first Golf course in the Islands, possibly west of the Mississippi. Built in 1898, designed by Donald MacIntyre, owner Samuel M. Damon wanted people from all walks of life to enjoy the sport of Golf. Originally an 18 hole course, it was changed to a 9 hole course in 1908. Amelia Earhart once used the course to land her plane.
Even though there are no sand bunkers here, there are still challenges on this unique course. Accuracy, more than distance is demanded here. If you think that Hole #3 has a rather large fairway, well, in the horse drawn carriage days, polo matches were held there. You must try golfing here at least once in your lifetime, to be a part of Damon's vision.
This Medical facility is a common sight on Oahu with many clinics located in almost every town. Where this particular facility is located, there is easy access to and from the H-1 and the H-3. That's very good since the Emergency center is open 24 hours here.
Even though today's jaunt of 1.7 miles wasn't long, this area needed to be completed, so its done!
These masterpieces are totally illegal, but, I see the artistry in them and can't help being impressed. Double click the picture to see the details.
An interesting shot because the Civilian Hospital (Kaiser Permanente) and the Military Hospital (Tripler Medical Center) are close enough to get into one picture! I guess everyone is taken care of right here! So, have a safe day! A Hui Hou!(Until we meet again!)

Have you ever seen this statue? Lit up at night and set back a ways from the road, Makalapa Elementary School Administration building showcases this rendition of children and mother reading books. Hmmm... in front of the Library would be good too, no?
An obstacle that bars my way, but, not to be unexpected as I continue my goal. At least the timing was right as I heard a strange noise and...
The "X" marks the spot of the closed fence that actually is another entrance/exit for Makalapa crater. Although walking 3.24 miles doesn't seem too long, it was just enough to be satisfied.
"Stadium Mall," located across the street from the "Aloha Stadium" is special because...
It contains the one, the only, "Ice skating rink" on the entire Island. Need to "chill?" This is the place! HaHa!
Some "unique" flowers I saw today. Don't forget to stop and smell the roses! Aloha!(Bye!)

Wow! What a really hot car! Literally, the car mural is a volcano erupting with lava shooting in the air and rivers of molten lava coursing to the lower areas. Shadowy mountains and billowing purple clouds are in the background. I talked with a neighbor, and he said that the car was stolen once, but since it was painted, it hasn't been touched. The uniqueness can easily be identified, so, a great idea if you don't want your car stolen folks! Double click the picture and see the beautiful details.
A couple of interesting mailboxes today. The first one is deep inside the bush with a slit cut into it for the mailman to insert mail. I was wondering, how does the mailman know if you want him to pick-up mail? Is the red flag connected to the mailbox, or does the resident put out a big red flag so the mailman knows what to do?
The second one looks like a BIG Oops! Upon reflection, maybe not the best idea to enclose the mailbox entirely. I see that they jury-rigged a solution to the problem. HaHa!
A series of dead ends completed my foray into Foster Village. Most residents eyed me with curiosity and suspiciousness. Also, dead ends cause me to backtrack out, so, most of my 3.24 miles today was retracing what was already done. Total for the week: 14.37 miles and the grand total of 126.78 miles since starting this blog.
Some pretty Hibiscus I saw on the way. I like to end my walking week with beauty! E malama pono!(take good care!)
