Numerous farms used to define Aiea. This is the last hold-out since suburbia took over the area. Pearlridge Mall had other ideas for this land, but the Sumida family persevered and kept the lease.
Called, "Sumida Farms," a family business, encompasses 10 acres, yet produces 70% of the Islands watercress and can still be profitable. Pearlridge Shopping Center surrounds this property, so progress and change has not affected this family.
Changes had to be made today as I was turned around from entering the Navy Housing area. Only residents and guests are allowed to enter. So, all the area that has the XXX's were on my list to walk, but, a inquisitive guard halted my progress. A reroute was added immediately and I finished a admirable 4.05 miles anyway!
Though the posted sign is 35 MPH, that is not the speed vehicles go over here. It's wayyy faster! Yes, CRAZY walking Hawaiian had to cross here which has 6 lanes of speeding traffic. Yes, people are supposed to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk, and no, they hardly ever do! I became the CRAZY RUNNING Hawaiian here! Notice the sign saying if you are wheelchair bound, use the light intersection crosswalk. Double click the picture to read!
Beautiful and BIG, this water feature graces the entrance to the "Pali Momi" Hospital near Pearlridge Shopping Center.
Another variety of the "accordion" fence. This one is more separated than the other one I saw. I think that little animals could easily fit through this as well as very skinny people! HaHa!
Travelling from Ewa Beach to Ford Island, this biking/running/walking trail located makai(towards the ocean) of Kamehameha Highway is the safest and well maintained route to log in some miles.
Open 24 hours, 7 days a week, "Anna Miller's" has forever spoiled me with their strawberry pie! I've been to a lot of places and no one can beat this pie! Don't eat it!!! I'm warning you!! You'll be forever changed! If you have the late night munchies, this is the place to go! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at all hours! See ya tomorrow! Aloha! (Bye!)
