I pledge allegiance to aloha, anytime I'm in Hawaii!  The bright colors caught my attention, and this flag is the cutest I've ever seen.  Also...

A miniture aloha shirt hanging on a "Welcome" sign.  Let's try to find a "Mu'u Mu'u" flag next! Ha!

Today was a day for "Cool" cars!  I've never seen so many "pimped out" cars in one day.

Where did they get the giant glass balls?  They are so hard to find now!

Uuuugh! How many solar panels do you need to get your electricity bill down?  Next time, put on a darker color roof so its not so visable.

A waterpark in your neighborhood!!! How I wanted to join them on this bright, sunny day!  Totally cool! (Literally!)

So sorry, I forgot to put in the map picture early in the blog.  The area I covered today is in Hickam AFB housing on the east part of the base.  I wanted to go further than the 3.02 miles, but, I had an appointment to get to.  The tally for the week is: 16.03 miles and the grand total comes to be: 183.67 miles since I started this blog.

Here is the path!  I have always seen this pedestrian overpass driving to the Hickam AFB main gate, but could never figure out how to get there.  "The Walking Hawaiian" journey is answering many questions that puzzled me before.

Maybe I got so lucky because I found this tree that has pods in the shape of a "four-leaf clover!"  Please double click the picture and look closely at the pods.  I've never seen pods shaped like this before, so, I'll try to research and find out what it is!  If you know, please tell me!  I hope you have a very lucky weekend!  I will be leaving for Michigan tomorrow, so I may miss a week or two of blogging.  Please be patient, as I'll be back on the road as soon as I'm back! A Hui Hou! (Until we meet again!)

All day, the weather looked threatening, but, all I got was a few sprinkles.  Actually, the clouds cooled me and made all my pictures full of vivid colors.  This shot was at a dead end street, but, what a beautiful view to live here!

Although I was tempted to borrow a book today, I had to remind myself that I can't carry it, along with everything else and I had a long way to go!

These sinkholes were surrounded by fences making sure no one can get hurt playing near it.  I wonder if I'll see more as I continue to walk this Navy Housing area?

Military housing is not my favorite jaunt, since the homes are so similar in appearance.  I was almost out of the housing area when a car slowed next to me.  Of course, I'm a little freaked out, but, the serviceman just wanted directions to Tripler.  Thank goodness, I did know what he needed to do, even though I don't live there, and he thanked me profusely.  Military housing can convolute and be very confusing.  Believe me, I know!  HaHa!  Finishing the day with 3.13 miles, I felt glad to help someone on my walk.

Two separate areas of fun for everyone.  The second park  has something that I've shown you before!

That tall, strange looking structure is the windmill that was on the blog when I walked through Mapunapuna.  Located on the Navy Housing, I always thought that this structure was very tall, but, it's on a high hill and maybe 30 feet tall.  I don't know what it powers, I'm hoping it takes care of all the recreational buildings in the area.

I saw this windchime of turtles, starfish and seahorses.  I wish I could buy one like that!

The potpourri of plants and lawn ornaments made for a whimsical yard, which put a smile on my face.  Did you see something today that made you smile?  I hope so!  A Hui Hou! (Until we meet again!)

Was somebody looking in the mirror when they made this address plaque?  I'm surprised that the residents put it up anyway.  Maybe they have a good sense of humor, and thought that they could at least get funny looks by people passing by.  It sure caught my attention!

This is the prettiest pile of tires I have ever seen.  I want to call this, "Tire Blossoms!"  HaHa!

I don't have a clue what variety this plumeria tree is, but I've made up some names anyway!  How about, "Candy-Cane" plumeria or "Stars and Stripes Forever."  Yeah, Donna is full of ideas today! Hah!

Yes, it's true, I love lava rock walls, but, I'm not sure about a WHOLE front yard being made of lava rocks!  Well, it sure makes a statement and is quite a conversation piece!

Even though I only capered 2.75 miles today, camera shots were prolific as interesting subject matter continually popped up.  It was a fascinating day, and inspires me to continue doing what I am doing!

Check out this beauty!  Jack (owner) bought this 2003, Special Edition, Chevrolet Corvette in California and had it shipped here on Oahu.  He told me he had it up to 125 MPH on the Moanalua Freeway in the past.  He was shining it up when I saw him.  His other car is a Chevrolet Camaro SS.  He loves his Chevrolets!

With two waterfalls and koi fish swimming happily in this pond, I loved it immediately.  Please double-click this picture to see the details!

No, this isn't a firehouse!  A home with a two-story garage and a regular two-car garage next to it.  What is it for?  A fishing boat.  At least, that's what the little sign in the middle says.

Please enjoy the beautiful flowers that delighted my walk today.  Hoping for a delightful day for you too!  Aloha! (Bye!)

Okay, for those of you who have been missing my flowers, here you go!  Starting off with a blossom that I encountered while walking today.

The area I covered on Hickam today, is located on the east side of the base.  Predominately housing, of course there needs to be services nearby.  Even though I treaded 2.94 miles, the number of services will blow your mind!

Let's start off with a car wash area.  Either you can wash the car yourself or go through the automatic car wash.  They also have vaccuums to clean your car.

Do you need to sell your car, or do you need to buy a used car?  This lot is used by the Air Force, the Navy and the Army.  The selections are many and the price, negotiable!

Is there an artist or a wannabe in your household?  This "Arts and Crafts Center" has a store for supplies and offers many ongoing courses to teach you how.  Besides that, there is a frame shop and a wood shop on the same premises.

Want to see a movie?  Hickam has its very own movie theatre.  The movies may not be the most recent, but, maybe behind a couple of months.  The price can't be beat!  Especially the prices for soda and popcorn!

Oh no!  You forgot to fill the gas tank and its 11:00pm?  Don't worry!  Twenty (yes, count them) fuel hoses that are open 24/7 are available!  We came here when the tsunami warning came late at night.  Just the sheer number of fill-up areas helped the long lines move quickly. Also, a large mini-mart is located to the right.

Want to learn to golf?  This Par 3, nine hole golf course should fit the bill.  This course is also the only one that you can play at night.  The fairways and greens are lit, but, if you hit it elsewhere, make sure you have a ball that lights up on impact so you can find it!

Does your car need maintainence or repair?  The auto body hobby shop rents out stalls with lifts and tools that you might need.  If you have the knowhow, why pay someone else to do it?

In the middle of buildings and structures, I came upon this little plot of paradise.  You know, if you look hard enough, you'll catch something that delights the eye.  So, should I get a job as a Air Force Recruiter?  By the time I finish walking Hickam, you might all be joining up, yeah? HaHa! A Hui Hou!(until we meet again!)

Got your "reef walkers" on?  You could really use it here!  Some people fish off of it, others bring a net and a bucket, and of course, bring your camera.  I think that snorkleing around the edge would be great since they have fishes galore.  This area is part of Hickam AFB, just past the Ft. Kamehameha housing.

The bullet holes received as Japanese zeros strafed this building during the bombing of Pearl Harbor has never been repaired.  This is so that it will never be forgotten.  Eight barracks were contained in this one complex, nick-named the "Hickam Hotel." It could house 3200 airmen and was near to the flightline, so airmen could walk to work.

I have noticed that every Monday, I'm pretty ambicious when I walk.  I guess that the rest I get during the weekend fires me up!  Today, I walked 4.20 miles and am very thankful there was no back-tracking as my daughter picked me up at the end of my walk.

Do you know what JPAC is?  The one and only place where MIA military men or women remains are identified.  Very scientific, using DNA or pieces of evidence (buttons, snaps, buckles) help to pinpoint time frames or places to give closure to family members of the servicemen.
Hickam Beach can be so much fun, because you can rent kayaks, paddle-boards, sailboats and rent a surfing tow.

If you think the beach is too crowded, you can rent your own BEACH!  This is called, "Honeymoon Beach," and it's yours for half a day with your own lifeguard, bathroom, and tables for a nominal fee!

Awful close, yeah?  This road, Mamala bay Dr. continues under the taxiway.  The taxiway leads to the Coral Reef Runway off of Hickam Harbor.  You can be entertained watching all the planes taxiing to the runway.

After my long, hard walk today, my daughter and I had lunch at the NEWLY opened "Sam Choy" restuarant that used to be "Sea Breeze."  There is indoor seating and lanai seating, and of course we sat on the lanai.  Today was a "soft" opening and everyone ate FREE as they wanted a comment card to be filled out. The official "Grand Opening" will be on Monday. Also, they gave us a dozen FREE chocolate chip and macadamia cookies!  Oh!  There are perks being "thewalkinghawaiian!"  I didn't even know, I just showed up!  So, my friends, I hope that your day will be filled with little surprises too!  Aloha!(Bye!)
